Kahlua, The Praying Puppy!

Shortly after Kahlua was born I spent a few weeks teaching him tricks so he could showcase his talents to a variety of audiences – family, friends, social media followers, etc. Kahlua was a quick learner in his infancy so I often increased the degree of difficulty when teaching him tricks knowing he would rise up to the challenge. After working with Kahlua to perfect a handful of neat tricks, I began searching for “that one unique trick” that would deliver an overwhelming amount of cuteness while melting the hearts of many. “That one unique trick” was ultimately named the Praying Puppy!

The Praying Puppy showcases Kahlua and me praying before eating a meal together. The trick itself only has 3 components so it wasn’t difficult for Kahlua to learn. However, teaching an 11-week-old puppy a trick that includes placing a large bowl of delicious food in their face is challenging to some degree. Having said that, once all of the components were completed and stitched together the result was adorable.

7-week-old Puppy Walks Down Stairs

As a 7-week-old puppy, Kahlua was an incredibly smart, strong, and dominate Labrador Retriever. He showcased a stout body with huge paws and a fluffy full coat. We knew at first sight that Kahlua was the perfect puppy and we were so excited to scoop him up and bring him home so we could spoil him with lots of love, toys, treats, and more.

Typically, there are a lot of checkboxes that must be satisfied prior to choosing a puppy from a breeder, but Kahlua is our second Lab from the breeder so the decision-making process was a lot less time consuming. Kahlua is also the cousin to our yellow Lab, Hunter, so we were blessed to find him.

Hunter The Yellow Lab Finally Joins Instagram

I’ve been swimming in the social media space for more than 15 years now and while I’ve shared hundreds of pictures and videos of my yellow Lab Hunter to all of my social networks, I never created an Instagram account for him. Trust me, I’ve thought about introducing Hunter to the millions of dog lovers that saturate the social network, but it takes time to effectively manage multiple (read: 10) social networking accounts, especially when you’re busy with life in general.

Sure, posting pictures every day on Instagram is a fairly easy task, but that alone is not how you build a targeted following. While the first requirement can be satisfied by posting engaging content on Instagram, applying a cool filter, searching for the “right” popular hashtags, and interacting with fans are necessary ingredients to build a successful brand. After all, showcasing your pet’s awesomeness and cuteness in order to achieve rock star status is the ultimate goal, right? Don’t get it twisted, I’m not suggesting this is a numbers game or a popularity contest. I’m merely stating that it’s all about leveraging the social network to bring more exposure to your pet.

My Yellow Lab, Hunter, Debuts On YouTube

Hunter Credendino
Earlier this evening my yellow Lab, Hunter, and I played a game of hide and seek. So here’s how the game is played: I hide a bunch of Marrowbone treats around the house and Hunter attempts to find each treat as quickly as possible. Each time we play I try to find more difficult hiding spots than the last game played while requesting that he improves his recovery speed. However, Hunter always seems to step up his game and impress me regardless of the curveballs I throw at him.

In the video below we can see Hunter searching for treats while I countdown the remaining treats. When I give Hunter the one-treat-to-go sign he knows he only has 1 treat left to find. That’s right, he can count too. If a treat is out of his reach, I trained Hunter to sit directly in front of the treat when he has located its scent to alert me of his findings. However, things don’t always go according to plan. Sometimes Hunter gets a little too excited so instead of sitting in front of the treat, he just wants me to grab the treat that is out of his reach and give it to him once he has located it – as seen in this video. After all his hard work, he deserves it though.
