Hanging Out at uShip, the Home of Shipping Wars

While I was in Austin last week launching our social media app at South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive I was excited to break away from the business side of things once everything settled down a bit so my girlfriend Savannah and I could explore all the events happening around the city. Since SXSW is saturated with coolness I put together an itinerary so we could experience as much as possible in the short time we were in town.

A few days prior to SXSWi I was at our Airbnb spot in downtown Austin testing the most recent build of our app and brainstorming with my team. While I was looking out the window collecting my thoughts, (mind you, these windows are 10-feet tall and wrap around the majority of the apartment, hence, the city view was simply stunning) I couldn’t help but notice the building directly across from our high-rise apartment. Although the building was approximately 4x smaller in height than the Whitley building where we were staying, I managed to catch a glimpse of the sign that was displayed on the brick siding, it read uShip. Sound familiar?

Adding A Hyperlinked Image To Your Gmail Signature

The other day one of my colleagues was trying to add a hyperlink to our company logo so when someone clicks on the image it will redirect them to our company website. Unfortunately his attempt was unsuccessful so he reached out to me for assistance since he noticed that the logo in my signature was already linked. Normally IT or marketing departments handle this task, but because we’re a tech startup we must wear multiple hats around here and sort these things out ourselves. That being said, after negotiating a delicious lunch in exchange for my services I walked him through the steps. I kid. I kid. I didn’t charge him anything for the help. Okay, moving on…

Although adding an image to a Gmail signature is fairly simple, linking the image to a website appears to be a difficult task for a lot of people. Therefore, I thought it would be a good idea to publish a tutorial that explains how to accomplish this task. Here are the steps to convert your logo into a hyperlink image:

Checking Out Hardcore Pawn in Detroit

After mapping out the My Cousin Vinny filming-location tour in Georgia and then heading up to North Carolina to visit my favorite tow-truck-driving repo team, Lizard Lick Towing, I thought it would be neat to create a list of a few other filming locations that would be fun to visit. First up: Detroit’s circus-filled pawn shop, Hardcore Pawn, otherwise known as American Jewelry and Loan.

Although you might have caught an episode or two of the reality series, let me give you a brief summary just in case you’re not familiar with the show. Hardcore Pawn is a reality TV series which airs on TruTV and follows the daily antics of the Gold family as they haggle with obnoxious customers in order to earn a buck or two on the items they buy and sell in their real-life pawn shop. Regardless if the show is scripted, reality, or a combination of both, this show is entertaining.

My Yellow Lab, Hunter, Debuts On YouTube

Hunter Credendino
Earlier this evening my yellow Lab, Hunter, and I played a game of hide and seek. So here’s how the game is played: I hide a bunch of Marrowbone treats around the house and Hunter attempts to find each treat as quickly as possible. Each time we play I try to find more difficult hiding spots than the last game played while requesting that he improves his recovery speed. However, Hunter always seems to step up his game and impress me regardless of the curveballs I throw at him.

In the video below we can see Hunter searching for treats while I countdown the remaining treats. When I give Hunter the one-treat-to-go sign he knows he only has 1 treat left to find. That’s right, he can count too. If a treat is out of his reach, I trained Hunter to sit directly in front of the treat when he has located its scent to alert me of his findings. However, things don’t always go according to plan. Sometimes Hunter gets a little too excited so instead of sitting in front of the treat, he just wants me to grab the treat that is out of his reach and give it to him once he has located it – as seen in this video. After all his hard work, he deserves it though.

My Cousin Vinny Filming Locations

My Cousin Vinny Filming Locations
Last September I published a blog post titled “My Cousin Vinny: Then and Now 20th Anniversary” after I visited more than 10 filming locations in July 2012. I wrote the blog post to share my experience with family and friends who like the movie, as well as all the My Cousin Vinny fans around the Web. After all, it was the film’s 20th anniversary so I thought it would be a nice treat for everyone.

The blog post received an overwhelming positive response from people all across the country. I’ve received countless messages on Twitter, Facebook, and via the Contact form on this website telling me how much they enjoyed reading the blog post and seeing all the then-and-now photos. The guys over at Adventure Club Podcast even invited me on their show to do an interview. Although I received a lot of awesome feedback, several readers wanted to know the physical address of many of the filming locations so they could visit them as well.
