The Dukes of Hazzard: Then and Now – 35 Years Later

The next time you watch “One Armed Bandits,” pay close attention to the scene when Rosco chases the Duke boys around Hazzard Square. During this chase scene there is another 01-branded General Lee parked in front of the City Pharmacy. Whoops!

If you didn’t already know, there is no such place named “Hazzard County, Georgia.” Hazzard Square is the fictional name of the town square where a lot of action took place in the early episodes of the television series. The real name of this square is Covington Town Square which is located in Newton County, Georgia. At the time of this writing, the film-friendly town is home to more than 60 films and television shows.

The town is often referred to as Hollywood South due to all the filming that takes place in the area. Some notable television and film titles include: Remember the Titans, My Cousin Vinny, Sweet Home Alabama, Walking Dead, and Halloween II. Covington Square was also known as Sparta, Mississippi for 7 seasons in the television series In the Heat of the Night and most recently known as Mystic Falls, Virginia in The Vampire Diaries.
